RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE) ordered a probe Wednesday into alleged forgery by a girl student who topped the Class 12 exam.

CGBSE chairman B.K.S. Ray wants to find out if someone else wrote the answer sheets for the girl, who topped the merit list among 190,567 students. The results came out two days ago.

Pending the completion of investigation, the name of the student of Birra Government School, Janjgir, has been deleted from the list of successful candidates.

Officials said they had found "enough evidence" to realise that "her original answer papers were replaced by second sets", written by someone else elsewhere.

The girl had secured 484 marks out of the total 500.

The probe team left for Janjgir district on Wednesday to talk to the student.

The Board claims that the forgery came to light when the CGBSE chairman went through the answer sheets of the first 10 toppers and found that the serial numbers of the answer sheets allotted to the girl at the exam centre did not match with the answer sheets that were assessed.
