SIMI activists charged with impersonation

BHOPAL: Four activists of the outlawed Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) arrested in Madhya Pradesh have now been charged with impersonation, the police said Monday.

Cases under the Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act were registered against them Sunday, Additional Superintendent of Police Hemant Chouhan told IANS. The four, arrested last month, include SIMI general secretary Safdar Nagori.

"We have filed a case against them for their surreptitious stay in Bhopal under false identities. They stayed in a rented house near Imami Gate between 2006 and 2008," Chouhan said. 

Besides Nagori, two others have been identified as Qamruddin Nagori and Hafiz Husain. The fourth person has not been identified, Chouhan added.

Nagori and his associates were arrested with a cache of arms and ammunition in Indore. Nagori has been accused of publishing and distributing pamphlets inciting Muslims to fight against the government.
