NEW DELHI: Nitin Verma, who allegedly killed his pregnant wife and parents at their southwest Delhi home, reportedly had an affair with two women before his marriage. While he married one of them, he wanted to continue his "close relationship" with the other too, the police said on Sunday.
Nitin had achieved one thing in life - marrying Pooja - but he wanted more, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Shalini Singh.
"Despite marrying his love Pooja, he also wanted to continue his relationship with the other close friend", Singh said.
Nitin, 26, was arrested on Saturday night.
Singh said that since Pooja did not approve of his close relationship with another girl, he got frustrated and took the extreme step of killing her.
Pooja, 24, was two months pregnant and worked as a teacher in a private school. Both were married Jan 24, 2007.
"We arrested Nitin last night. He has confessed to the crime and also the fact that he was having an extramarital affair with a girl, which drove him to the extreme step. We are probing the matter further," the police officer said.
Pooja and Nitin's parents - Vinod Verma, 57, and Pushpa, 51 - were found dead in their house in Rajnagar locality, near Dwarka, late on Friday night with multiple stab wounds.
Nitin, the police said, had planned to kill Pooja, but was caught in the act by his parents. When they tried to stop him, he attacked them also.
The bodies were discovered by a neighbour alerted by Vinod's younger brother, Vijay, who stays at the nearby Palam village.
Nitin apparently called Vijay at 12.25 a.m., saying he had met with an accident and that no one at home was responding to his mobile-phone calls.
Vijay sent his sons to help Nitin and called up Ravindra, Verma's neighbour, to check out the house. Ravindra found the main door ajar and came across Vinod's body lying in a pool of blood.
On being informed, Vijay rushed to the house and discovered that Pushpa and Pooja were also dead.
Nitin changed his statement later, saying that three masked men had attacked them in the house, but he had escaped, a police official said.
With no valuables missing from the house and the entry being a friendly one, Nitin's contradictory statements made him the prime suspect.
Vinod was the eldest of three brothers and the family stayed in Teliwara in Sadar Bazar earlier. They bought the house in Rajnagar and shifted in 2004. His two brothers stay in Palam village.
