Cricket betting racket busted in Bangalore

BANGALORE: City police on Saturday claimed to have busted a cricket betting racket with the arrest of a person allegedly involved in betting on the Australia-Sri Lanka ODI match played in Melbourne on Saturday.

Records of 'transactions' to the tune of Rs 75 lakh, two mobile phones, two land phones, two colour television sets, a calculator and a cash of Rs 78, 270 were seized from the 42-year old BM Satishkumar, arrested by a special squad of the City Crime Branch (CCB), police said.

The betting was being operated from a house in the Sheshadripuram area of the city.

Police were searching for a Kerala-based bookie, Shibu, and some others involved in the racket.

The CCB team was headed by Joint Commissioner of Crime Gopal Hosur and Deputy Commissioner of Crime ND Mulla.

Australia beat Sri Lanka by 24 runs in the rain-shortened one-day match of the tri-series also involving India.
