AGARTALA: Polling for the election to the 60-member Tripura Assembly began on Saturday amid heavy security.
Voting, which got under way at around 0730 hrs, was slow initially due to the cold weather, but it picked up later.
Official sources said about 12 per cent of the electorate had exercised their franchise so far.
About 43,000 security personnel, including 20,000 Central Paramilitary Forces, have been deployed to ensure free and fair polls.
