MUMBAI: The State Crime Investigation Department (CID) will record statements of director general of police (Housing) AN Roy and city police commissioner DN Jadhav this week before filing a fresh first information report in the controversial Rajendra Chaturvedi fake arrest case.

Sources in the Pune-based CID said keeping in mind the seniority and high-profile nature of the job of the two officers, they may not be summoned to the CID office. Instead, their statements could be recorded at their respective place of work. Earlier on Friday, the CID extended the facility to additional DGP (State Highways) Arup Patnaik when an officer of the rank of superintendent of police recorded the statement at the additional DGP’s office at Old Customs House.

It may be recalled the CID has already filed a report listing its findings to the state home department indicting 13 persons and has sought permission to initiate legal proceedings against senior police officials.

The latest exercise of recording Patnaik, Jadhav and Roy’s statements is seen as an exercise to corroborate the statements given by the said indicted officers and men. “It is a legal and technical requirement to place on record before a competent court when we file a fresh case,” said an officer involved in the investigations.
