MUMBAI: As many as 19 students from the city have entered the finals of 'Destination NASA Contest' that will be held online on Sunday.

The top ten winners from among 130-odd finalists, selected nationally, along with one parent and a teacher each will fly to NASA. The trip is tentatively scheduled in May. The winners will also have a special meeting with Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan in Hyderabad.

'Destination NASA' ran across 13 cities from November 28, 2007. The qualifying rounds were conducted in two phases in which over 49,000 students from different schools registered. The contest was organised by 24X7guru.com and Radio Mirchi and was launched by Aamir Khan, prior to the resounding success of 'Taare Zameen Par'.

Speaking to reporters here, Learnsmart India, which owns 24x7guru.com, Director Sanjeev Gupta said, ''We are thrilled with the overwhelming response we have got.''

''A unique aspect of our contest is to reward not only the child but also their parents and teachers. There are many occasions when we find that the teachers do not receive recognition and appreciation for all their toil and effort. We have created this event to demonstrate our gratitude to the teaching fraternity who help in moulding a child's intellect and sensibilities,'' Mr Gupta added.

Some of the finalists from the city are Saloni Agrawal of Lilavati Bai Poddar Senior Secondary School in Santacruz West, Ajay Srivatsa of Smt Sulochanadevi Singhania School in Thane, Anish Mallads of The Cathedral and John Connon (middle school) in Fort, Jay Sushil Mardia of Gopi Birla Memorial School in Walkeshwar, Ashwin Bhat of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Vidyalaya, Shraddha Rana of Lokhandwala Foundation School in Kandiwali East and Tushar Gupta of Delhi Public School in Nerul.
