Pacer gets a sense of deja vu watching Ishant mature

ADELAIDE: Irfan Pathan feels the emergence of Ishant Sharma is not only good for Indian cricket but world cricket as well. The Delhi speedster, Irfan thinks, has been find of the tour and will take the team to places. “It is a big plus for India and world cricket. Everyone is happy. Ishant is a really good fast bowler. He will take India to places,” said Irfan.

The Baroda player said he felt a sense of deja vu seeing Ishant grow in stature. “I started my career here in Australia four years ago. Now I’m seeing Ishant leaving his mark in international cricket. I’m happy for him. He is a bright prospect and he is fearless.”

Irfan also said he had no problems bowling first change, allowing S Sreesanth and Ishant to handle the new ball. “I’m doing a better job first change,” he said.

He disagreed that the break between matches is upsetting the team’s rhythm. “The break is helping us. It also helps out-of-form cricketers. As a bowler I welcome the breaks. I can strengthen myself and recharge myself.”

India, he says, were unlucky in Canberra. “We have done well so far in the tour. There were good conditions for us in Brisbane but unluckily we could not win. We’re unlucky again in Canberra. If there was a full game, we perhaps would have won. But we are used to it and I can understand that. This is all part of the game.”

The all-rounder said there was nothing wrong with the form of Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag. “No need to hit the panic button. They are wonderful players. You can soon expect better things from these players. Viru got a good start in one game. He is batting well. It is just a matter of getting one big score. Yuvi is coming out of injury. He will be fine soon. He did not get enough balls to play in Canberra.”

Irfan disclosed that every player would get a chance in the tour. “We’ve played only one full game. It is not right to say that everyone is not getting a chance. Everyone is keen to do well. We’re gelling well. We’ve four more matches to go. We’ve a good chance in the tournament.”

Irfan felt Australia are still the best side in the world but India have raised the bar. “We played good cricket. We’ve raised the bar. When you raise the bar, it helps beat the better side. But I think Australia are still the number one side.”
