Police had taken 1800 people into custody ahead of the arrests of MNS Chief Raj Thackeray and Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi to avoid any untoward incident in the state.

MUMBAI: Police had taken 1800 people into custody ahead of the arrests of MNS Chief Raj Thackeray and Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi to avoid any untoward incident in the state, a top police official said here on Wednesday.
The DGP said a high-level review meeting was held by Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil at Mantralaya in which home secretary and police officials were present.
"It was a review meeting as the deputy chief minister wasn't here for the last four days. In the meeting the Home Secretary of the state, Mumbai Police Commissioner and other officials including myself were present," Director General of Police P S Pasricha said.
Pasricha said the state police is capable of meeting any eventuality in the wake of arrests and added that additional forces have been requisitioned from the centre for the same.
