MUMBAI: The city police have launched massive manhunt to trace alleged 'hawala' dealer and Pune-based stud farm owner Hassan Ali Khan following criminal case registered against him.

Khan had provided fake information about his residential address while obtaining a passport with the Mumbai Passport office, police said.

During the investigation, police officials had been to Chembur address stated in Khan's passport but found that somebody else is staying there.

Ever since the Income-Tax authorities conducted the raid at his Pune residence in January last year, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation and Market Regulatory Authority, Security Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and other agencies had been searching for him.

Moreover, the ED authorities had written a letter to the Regional Passport office in the city urging it to investigate how Ali has managed to obtain a passport through fake documents.

Meanwhile on Monday, Maharashtra BJP leader and former Member of Parliament Kirit Somaiya had alleged that the Union Government was suppressing facts about Khan and also said the party would raise the issue in the coming budget session of parliament.
