NEW DELHI: Narendra Modi's swearing in as Gujarat Chief Minister tomorrow is the best birthday gift for party patriarch Atal Bihari Vajpayee, feels BJP.

Modi, heading the fourth successive BJP government in the state, will take oath as Chief Minister for the third time on a day when Vajpayee will celebrate his 84th birthday.

"The best birthday gift for Vajpayeeji is that Narendra Modi is being sworn in for the third time and BJP is getting a fourth term in Gujarat," party spokersperson Prakash Javadekar said.

Ironically Vajpayee had once admonished Modi over the post-Godhra riots and advised him to follow 'raj dharma'.

Significantly, Vajpayee, who is not keeping good health, had maintained a silence over Gujarat elections, issuing no appeal to voters for the first phase of polling on December 11.

When questions were raised over his silence regarding Gujarat after he issued an appeal for Himachal Pradesh, he released a message seeking votes for Modi-led BJP on the penultimate day of polling for the second phase on December 16.

Senior leader L K Advani, who left for Gandhinagar for witnessing the swearing in of Modi, called on Vajpayee today to greet him on his birthday. Jaswant Singh also drove to Vajpayee's residence to wish him.
