LPG cylinder explodes in a local train, three injured

Three commuters aboard a local suburban train were injured when a LPG cylinder being transported illegally in a compartment, exploded this afternoon in central Mumbai.

MUMBAI: Three commuters aboard a local suburban train were injured when a LPG cylinder being transported illegally in a compartment, exploded this afternoon in central Mumbai.
   
The two-kg LPG cylinder was being transported by a passenger on a local train bound for Panvel in Navi Mumbai from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus when it exploded accidentally at about 1:15 pm near the Cotton Green station, a Central Railways spokesperson said.
   
All the three passengers had sustained minor injuries and had been taken to a nearby hospital to receive medical treatment. Doctors from the Railway Hospital in Byculla have also gone to the hospital to assist in their treatment, he said.
   
The railway police is still trying to identify the passenger who was carrying the LPG cylinder in the train, which as per law is prohibited.
   
As a result of the explosion, services on the Harbour Line of Central Railways was disrupted and resumed only after about 1:50 pm.
