KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian government, which has dropped the murder attempt charges against 31 ethnic Indians, on Tuesday said it would not compromise on national security and be "firm" on people who try to threaten it in the future.

"We will keep on firm in this matter. There will be no compromise on anything that involves national security," Deputy Internal Security Minister Mohd Johari Baharum said here.

He was commenting on the 31 ethnic Indians, who were initially charged and pleaded not guilty to attempting to murder a police officer while participating in a massive rally in front of the Sri Subramaniar Temple in Batu Caves on November 25 to protest against the alleged marginalistion of the community.

Attorney General Abdul Gani Patail dropped all charges on six of the 31 people and the attempted murder charge on the remaining 25, who later changed their plea to guilty to other two charges.

Johari also advised the public to think of the implications before doing something. "If they are detained, surely their families will suffer. So, think first," Bernama news agency quoted him as saying.
