TIRUNELVELI: Appealing to his party workers not to be eager to get government and party positions, DMK deputy general secretary M K Stalin on Sunday said posts should come to a person and he should not go after it.

"Nobody should aspire for any posts or power. It should come to you and you should not go after them. Make sacrifices but do not expect rewards," Stalin, also the Local Administration Minister, said, while delivering the presidential address at the DMK youth wing conference here.

Stalin's remarks come in the wake of reports that he might be announced as the political successor to his father and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi at the conference.

He also asked his followers to take a vow to work for a casteless society. "Caste system has divided the Tamils. A situation should be created to unite all Tamils under one banner."

The youth wing should celebrate the birth centenary of party founder C N Annadurai, which falls on September 15, 2008, in a grand manner and the party cadres should take a vow to establish a casteless society at that time, he said.

Stalin said the DMK youth wing, which was started as a youth club in the late sixties, had now emerged as one of the important wings of the party.

Taking a dig at political parties started recently, Stalin said, "Politics seems to have become a part time business for some who have floated political parties. The people should beware of such politicians, who had emerged overnight and had floated parties with selfish motives. Their aim is to become chief minister without making any sacrifice."
