Two Indian doctoral students were found shot dead in an apparent home invasion in a Louisiana university campus apartment.
BATON ROGUE(Louisiana): In perhaps the first killing of Indian students in an American university campus, two Ph.D students from Andhra Pradesh were found shot dead in an apartment inside Louisiana state university campus.
Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma of Kadapa district and Kiran Kumar Allam from Karim Nagar district were found dead inside the apartment on Thursday night in an apparent incident of home invasion, police said.
The double murder came to light when Allams pregnant wife sought urgent medical help from the university authorities, said Swati Badgi K Rao, Cultural Secretary of Indian Students' Association in the US.
Reddy, who had got married nine months ago, and Allam, son of noted Telugu author Allam Rajaiah, had each been shot once in the head, police said.
Each was shot in the head once and while Komma was found bound by a computer cable Allams body was found near the door.
Police said three men were seen leaving the area but no arrest has so far been made.
Authorities said the murder of Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam appeared to be a case of home invasion and other
students in the university were not at risk.
Both had been staying in a section of the university campus reserved for married couples.
Authorities believe there was no forced entry into the apartment.
A University press release said that the police department received a medial emergency call at around 2230 hours local time.
The university authorities sent text messages to students informing them of the crime but the campus was not locked as authorities were of the view that the murders was a case of home invasion.
Reports said the apartment building where the murders took place was on the edge of an area known for high crime.
