Late Pramod Mahajan’s daughter is keen to ride Page 3 support to Parliament

MUMBAI: The battle for Page 3 is about to begin. Late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan’s daughter, Poonam, wants to ‘poll-vault’ into Lok Sabha from the south Mumbai constituency, say sources. And for that she is keen to break into the Page 3 circle, to rub shoulders with Page 3 personalities, who quietly call the shots in south Mumbai.

Her adversary will no doubt be the young and dynamic Milind Deora, son of Union minister Murli Deora. An established businessman and a fast-maturing politician, the Congress MP from south Mumbai is already a darling of the city socialites. So, Poonam will have her task cut out.

However, workers of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) - the youth wing of BJP -  believe that nothing is impossible, and have drawn up a plan to launch Poonam as their  candidate from south Mumbai. The planners say that to bring her success, close interaction with Page 3 personalities is a must, along with an extensive wardwise study of voters.

“South Mumbai is the smallest Lok Sabha constituency in the country in terms of number of voters. So, it will be possible to reach out to every voter if a proper plan is in place. We have collected data, which gives a fair idea about the social fabric of the constituency. It comprises 70 per cent young voters, who are our target audience,” said a close aide of Poonam.

Poonam, however, denied that preparations were on for her launch. “I am not aware of any plan,” she said. “I have not asked for any. I am not a regular Page 3 member. The media occasionally puts me on Page 3, and forget its the next day. It is mere speculations that I would contest Lok Sabha polls from south Mumbai.”
However, DNA has a copy of the plan chalked out by BJYM workers for Poonam in south Mumbai.

According to it, BJYM will try to woo Gujarati and Rajasthani voters, who are influential in south Mumbai.
Efforts will be made to win support of Shiv Sena corporators. What’s most intriguing about the plan is that BJYM will also try to rope in the corporators of Akhil Bharatiya Sena, led by gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli.
