NEW DELHI: The Delhi airport is sprucing up amenities for passengers to fight fog-induced delays and cancellations of flights after it was warned about a possible 150 hours of disruption of services this winter.

The Delhi International Airport Ltd, developer of the airport here, is providing additional seating for passengers at terminals, information of flight delays and cancellations on its website, an extensive information display system, more eateries and deploying customer care service staff.

A new call-centre is also being set up to provide available flight information and airlines' contact numbers, DIAL Chief Operating Officer Andrew Harrison told reporters here.

"We are prepared to face the fog this season. We hope we will be able to provide better amenities to passengers this year," he said.

He also requested the airliners to comply with the DGCA directive which asks them to position a minimum strength of CAT-III Instrument Landing System-trained pilots to operate flights.

Harrison said passengers were advised to provide their mobile numbers to airliners at the time of ticket booking as the service provider could inform them about flight timings, which would help them save time and inconvenience.

About 150 hours of disruption of services is expected from December this year to February next due to the falling of runway visibility to less than 50 metres, MeT (Airport) Director R K Jenamani said.

Last winter, flight operations were disrupted seven times when the Runway Visibility Range (RVR) went below 50 metres while Low Visibility Procedure (LVP) was initiated 30 times when the RVR went below 800 metres.
