KOLKATA: In an organisational rejig, Tata Steel will put in place a two-tier management platform at the top.
While one tier will evolve common strategies and facilitate the integration of group companies, the second will ensure commonality in functions and approach in operations.
The new structure will come into effect from January 1, 2008. The restructuring has a two-pronged objective, post the acquisition of Corus.
The Tata Steel group comprise two distinct entities — Tata Steel, which includes Tata Steel Thailand and NatSteel Asia, Singapore, and the Corus Group.
The strategy and integration committee, to be headed by Ratan Tata, will include Jim Leng, B Muthuraman, Philippe Varin, T Mukherjee, Rauke Henstra, Hemant Nerurkar, Koushik Chatterjee and Jean-Sebastian Jacques as members.
The Group Centre, which has been created for functions to be performed with a common approach across the group, will oversee technological integration, finance, corporate relations and global minerals.
Each member of the group has been entrusted one function and will report to the managing director of Tata Steel and the CEO of Corus.
Technology and integration will be overseen by T Mukherjee as group director. Kaoushik Chatterjee has been appointed as group chief financial officer, Jean Sebastian Jacques as group director for strategy, Manzer Hussian as group director for communications and Arun D Baijal as group director, global minerals.
Both Tata Steel and Corus will have executive committees chaired by B Muthuraman, managing director, Tata Steel, and Philippe Varin, CEO, Corus.
The joint executive committee of the Tata Steel group will meet every quarter for the overall review of performance against the group ambition.
