KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former Test batsman Ejaz Ahmed as the batting and fielding coach at its National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore.

Ejaz will take up his new assignment from December 1 after returning from Adelaide where he has gone to play a charity match for the David Hookes foundation.

"It is a great honour for me to be associated once again with Pakistan cricket and specially with the younger players," he said from Adelaide.

Ejaz said the ongoing series with India would have a big influence on the new generation of players in Pakistan.

"I consider this series very significant because it comes at a time when we are entering a new era and rebuilding the team. A win in the Test series would affect the psyche of the next generation of players who will train at the academy," he said.

Ejaz said he would try to explain the need to separate batting techniques for limited overs cricket and Test matches to the younger players at the academy.

"Nowadays many of our players are caught in this trap of playing over-attacking cricket. In Tests you need to be patient and careful about your shot selection," he added.

"Unfortunately the batsmen tend to attack too much these days and go after deliveries that must be left alone," he added.
