Two young sons of an Indian immigrant couple, who were allegedly set on fire by their father, continue to be in critical condition.
NEW YORK: Two young sons of an Indian immigrant couple, who were allegedly set on fire by their father, continue to be in critical condition with authorities advising their mother to seek a court injunction denying her hospitalised husband access to the children.
Nisha Patel, the mother, was not at home in Glendale Heights in Illinois when the incident occurred and her husband Kaushik Patel was also burnt but his injuries were not life-threatening, hospital sources said.
The authorities want to limit father's access and a court order is necessary as otherwise he could demand to see his children legally.
34-year old Kaushik Patel is alleged to have doused his sons, four-year old Om and seven-year old Vishv, with gasoline and set them ablaze. Then he is said to have taken them in his car to a relative's house.
His sister-in-law had told the Chicago Tribune that Kaushik Patel described it as a blotched suicide attempt involving his sons and himself.
