ALLAHABAD: Condemning the serial blasts in three cities of Uttar Pradesh as 'an act of jehadi terrorism', the Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Friday called for a state-wide bandh on Saturday.

"The VHP has given a call for a day-long UP bandh tomorrow in protest against the blasts which appear to be a result of India's soft stance on terrorism," the outfit's international president, Ashok Singhal, said here.

Accusing the Government of adopting a soft policy in fighting terror, he said "it is the need of the hour that anti-nationals like Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru be accorded severest punishment and stringent laws like POTA be put in place so that terrorists could be dealt with an iron hand".

At least 14 people, including some lawyers, were killed in near-simultaneous blasts in court premises in Varanasi, Faizabad and Lucknow in which over 50 people were also injured.

Earlier speaking over phone from Vapi in Gujarat, VHP's International Secretary General Praveen Togadia said "the blasts are clearly an act of jehadi terrorism.

"The militants, who earlier used to target temples and religious places, have now targetted courts, which implies that they are now attacking the very pillars of our democracy and thereby posing a challenge to the Indian state itself," he said.
