NEW DELHI: The most-populated jail of the country, Tihar, is all set to get two more high-profile inmates - the Ansal brothers found guilty in the tragic Uphaar case. A 15x10ft barrack is the maximum the high-security prison has to offer to Delhi’s most prominent property honchos.

Sushil and Gopal Ansal and the 10 others convicted in the case will be lodged in the same barrack and are likely to share space with other high-profile inmates such as Manu Sharma (Jessica Lal murder case), Sushil Sharma (tandoor case) and Santosh Singh (Priyadarshini Mattoo murder case).

“In the event of the Ansals not being awarded bail on Friday, they, with the other convicts, will have to be in jail at least till Monday. They will all be lodged in a common barrack in Jail No 2. Manu Sharma, Sushil Sharma and Santosh Singh are the other high-profile inmates in this barrack,” said Sunil Gupta, law officer, Tihar jail.

“There is no plan to lodge the Ansal brothers and the other 10 convicts in two separate cells. However, if the Ansals feel threatened by other inmates of the barrack, they can give an application to the jail superintendent, requesting to be lodged separately,” said a jail official.

Away from their air-conditioned comfort, the Ansals will, for the first time, have to face the rigors of a prison. If jail authorities are to be believed, they will be given three blankets to protect themselves from the cold but will have to sleep on the floor.

A tight routine awaits them in prison. “They will have to wake up at 6am and move out of the barrack to work. They will return to the barrack only at 7pm,” a prison official said. They will also have to share a toilet with at least 50 other inmates.

Food too would be measly. A cup of tea and two slices of bread with butter for breakfast. Lunch at 12.30 pm, normally comprising rice, daal, curd, rotis and a seasonal vegetable, and a cup of tea and two biscuits in the evening at 4. Dinner, which would be the same as lunch, would be served at 6.30 pm.
