LONDON: An NRI businessman who refused to cooperate with police after being shot has been sentenced to three months in jail for perverting the course of justice.

Sanjeev Bhanot (29) almost died after being shot in the stomach a year ago in Harrow. But despite spending four weeks in hospital, the businessman from Southall, west London, refused to help police.

After inventing two versions of events, he finally admitted not cooperating because he feared for his safety.

Sentencing Bhanot in a city court, Judge Christopher Elwen said last evening "It is important those involved in gun crime, even as a victim, cooperate."
