13 killed in Lankan clashes

COLOMBO: At least 12 Tamil Tiger rebels and a civilian have been killed in a series of clashes between Sri Lankan troops and the LTTE in the island nation's embattled north.
    
Two militants were killed in a clash between the Army troops and LTTE in Manthai area in Mannar on Tuesday, the defence ministry said in a statement.
    
In a separate incident, three LTTE cadres were killed in Parappakandal area when a group Tiger rebels clashed with the army, the ministry said adding four militants were killed by the army in the same area in another incident.
     
Suspected LTTE gunmen shot dead a Tamil civilian in Jaffna town last afternoon, the army said. The victim has been identified as Ramodaranpille Navanakumar(43), a businessman who was a resident East Kokkuvil in Northern Jaffna.
    
In Pallaikulam area in Mannar, two Tiger rebels were killed and another injured in a clash with the government forces, the army said.
    
Separately a LTTE cadre was killed by the army in Anthaikuttikulam area in Mannar, it said.
