'Official' security breach at Shantivan; CISF officer detained

An official of CISF was detained at Shantivan where several VVIPs including President Pratibha Patil had gathered to pay homage to former PM Jawaharlal Nehru.

NEW DELHI: An official of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was detained here on Wednesday morning at Shantivan where several VVIPs including President Pratibha Patil had gathered to pay homage to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
     
Delhi Police detained a CISF sub-inspector B Singh and questioned him about what he was doing at the venue.
     
Despite showing an authorised invitation card, the CISF official was whisked away to Daryaganj Police station for questioning by police and other central security agencies.
     
According to official sources, the CISF personnel neither had any business to be present at the venue nor was he required at a function which was attended among others by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister Shivraj Patil, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
     
The higher authorities of the CISF had been informed and a report submitted to the Union Home Ministry.
     
CISF looks after the security of the Shantivan round the clock but before such functions, the security drill is handed over to Delhi Police which takes over charge.
