CM asks MPs to pursue matter with Centre

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government will respond positively to whatever decision the Centre takes on the issue of loan waiver for farmers, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said here on Tuesday.
    
He was addressing a meeting of all-party MPs in the state ahead of the winter session of Parliament.
    
"The meeting discussed various developmental issues of the state to be taken up by MPs during the session," an official said.
    
"State MPs should follow-up the issue of loan waiver with the Centre," Deshmukh said.
    
Maharashtra has been sanctioned the maximum number of projects under the Central government's Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, he said adding MPs should pursue with the Centre for making available funds for completing these projects within stipulated period.
    
Maharashtra assembly has already passed resolutions that there should be statutory development boards for Konkan and Khandesh regions, he said. Several irrigation schemes of the state have been included in the AIBP programme of the Centre and MPs should pursue these projects, he said.
    
On housing for Mumbai mill workers, Deshmukh pointed out that a policy decision would have to be taken by the Centre.
    
NCP MP Supriya Sule said the government should play a pro-active role in providing basic infrastructure facilities and also focus on areas like health and tourism. Officials, especially those in Delhi, should promptly provide necessary information to MPs and be in touch with them, she said.
