LISBON: Former Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho allegedly attacked a pupil at his daughter's school, pulling his hair and ears, but has since apologised for the incident, Portuguese agency Lusa reported.

The 44-year-old Mourinho, who left the London club earlier this season, 'overreacted' towards a 12-year-old pupil who goes to the same school as his 11-year-old daughter, 20 kilometres south of Lisbon.

"I did not see a physical attack," headmistress Isabel Simao told Lusa on Thursday. "But the child and the parents of other pupils present claim Mourinho pulled the pupil's hair and ears.

"Jose Mourinho himself immediately realised he had overreacted and admitted he was in the wrong. He wrote two letters of apology, one to the school and the other to the parents."

"The letters were given back to him and the incident is now closed."

Mourinho's spokesman Eladio Parames denied any attack, in an interview with Lusa, but said there had been 'tension' between Mourinho and the boy, which was 'normal considering the insults the boy made at length to both Jose Mourinho and his daughter'.

Mourinho arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2004, fresh from leading Porto to the European Champions League title, winning two Premiership titles in 2005 and 2006 followed by an FA Cup and League Cup double last season.
