CHANDIGARH: Flush with its success in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls earlier this year, the BSP has decided to go it alone in the next general election and its chief Mayawati is not averse to being Prime Minister.

"We will have no alliance with other parties. Instead of having a tie-ups with parties, we will try to have a tie-up with all sections of society," UP Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati said here on Saturday.

She was replying to a question on the BSP's stand if there was an early election to the Lok Sabha.

The 50-year-old Dalit leader did not hide her desire to become Prime Minister either.

"If the people of my party and my supporters want that Behanji (Mayawati) should occupy the seat in Delhi, I will not let them down," she said.

Mayawati said the BSP would contest the coming Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh polls on its own. The party had begun strengthening its organisational set-up in the two states and hoped to replicate its social engineering experiments in other states besides UP, she said.

She said there was no question of electoral pacts with the Congress, BJP, SP and other regional parties, which she branded "enemies of the BSP as all these parties are not in favour of the people's welfare".

To another question, the BSP leader said she had written to the Prime Minister yesterday asking the Centre to institute a fresh CBI probe into the 2002 Gujarat riots in the wake of the reported expose on it by a weekly news magazine.

"The matter is very serious, which is why we have demanded a fresh probe," she said.
