Rs two lakh relief to kin of building collapse victims: Govt

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Government on Saturday announced a relief of Rs two lakh each to the kin of those killed in the building collapse at Ukkadam in Coimbatore, which claimed 13 lives and injured 14 persons.
    
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi also announced compensation of Rs 25,000 each to the injured.
    
Further, a sum of Rs 5,000 would also be given to others who have flats in the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) complex to shift their residences, an official release said here.
    
Minister for Housing and Revenue I Periyasamy and Minister for Small Industries Pongalur N Palanisamy have already been deputed by the chief minister for meeting the relatives of the deceased.
    
The three-storeyed block of 24 flats, believed to be 30-years old, collapsed in heavy rains at around 6.30 pm on Friday.
    
According to officials, the building had become totally dampened in the rains, which had been lashing the city for the last three days.
