Aiyar's condition stable: hospital

CHENNAI: The general condition of Union Panchayati Raj and Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar, who was admitted to the Apollo Hospital here after he developed chest pain, was stable, according to the hospital's medical bulletin on Wednesday evening.
    
"The Minister is admitted for evaluation of chest pain. He is being treated for acute coronary syndrome. He needs to be under continuous monitoring," the bulletin said.
    
Aiyar was on a three-day tour of his Mayiladuthurai constituency in Nagapattinam district where he suffered chest pain in the wee hours.
    
He was immediately taken to a hospital in Tiruchirapalli before he was brought here by a flight and was admitted to the corporate hospital.
    
Congress MLA Rajkumar, who was accompanying him during the tour, said that doctors had advised Aiyar be kept under observation for another 72 hours.
    
The 66-year-old Union Minister had already suffered a mild attack and had other ailments like peptic ulcer, he said.
