LONDON: It was love in the air and marriage in the skies for a young couple of Asian origin who had a Bollywood style wedding 3,000 feet above the earth in a vintage Douglas Dakota DC3 aircraft in Hertfordshire.

Groom Alamin Khandakar of Indian pop act Chime, who is reported to have cut three albums in the Indian sub-continent, married singer Mum Mun Shafiqullah in a Muslim ceremony aboard the aircraft that was used in the Indian film 'Love Story'.

After the event, Khandakar gushed, "I can't express my feelings. I would have to look through a dictionary to find words to explain it. I have always dreamed of being a pilot. Although I am a musician there's a pilot living inside my heart. I'm having my wedding on a plane because it's a combination of my life dreams."

Over 50 wedding guests attended the ceremony, estimated to have cost the couple 40,000 pounds ($81,200), reports from St. Albans said. They boarded the private wedding jet at Cambridge airport.

Food for the event was provided by the Bengal Paradise restaurant, which gained popularity when it catered to the Bangladesh cricket team during the recent World Cup in the West Indies. Members of the team recommended the restaurant to Khandakar.

It took a team of chefs four hours to prepare food for the event in the skies. The fare included chicken tikka, onion bhajis, hara kebabs, and Bombay potatoes.
According to restaurant owner Raj Miah, the wedding is only as good as the food that is served. He told the local media, "With this extravagant event you need food of the same quality. A wedding is only as great as the food in our culture."
