Twinkle and RINKIE, along with their hubbies, are working on a special birthday gift for their dad, ‘original Bollywood superstar’ Rajesh Khanna
He’s become a bit of a recluse, so it was great to see Rajesh Khanna turn up for a party hosted by long time friend Dheeraj Kumar.
It was almost a get together of senior stars, what with Shatrughan Sinha, Rakesh Roshan and Jeetendra also making an appearance. Khanna himself was in a jovial mood, and couldn’t resist taking a dig at Ektaa Kapoor, who had accompanied her dad to the party.
“Altthough even I’m a devotee of Lord Balaji, all His blessings seem to only for Ektaa’s house, none for the rest of us,” he quipped, tongue-in-cheek.
Dheeraj, who is set to recreate some old magic with Khanna (he’s cast him in the lead role for an upcoming TV serial) recounted an interesting anecdote from their younger days.
“We started our careers together over three decades ago, when we were selected in the United Producers Talent Contest. He was known as Jatin Khanna and I was called Purshottamdas, but our screen names became Rajesh Khanna and and Dheeraj Kumar. I felt proud when he became a superstar,” said Dheeraj.
But the most interesting revelation of the evening came from Kaka himself. Apparently his daughters — Twinkle and Rinkie — along with their husbands, (including star son-in-law Akshay Kumar) are in the process of renovating his deserted bungalow ‘Aashirwad’ at Carter Road.
“They want to present a memorable tribute to me and for the world to witness that Bollywood’s first superstar was born here. And I dare not question them, when their mission is so heartwarming. The ‘rebirth’ of the landmark will happen on my birthday on December 29, this year,” smiles Khanna. Now that’s some birthday gift.
