HAJIPUR: Hundreds of protesters here blocked the train and vehicular traffic for hours to protest the killing of a school teacher's killing in the district.

The rail and road transport normalised only after the intervention of Union Railway Minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, who reached the spot to console the family members of the victim and assured them of an appropriate action.

A government school teacher Dev Kumar Rai was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Rambhadra locality under Hajipur police station last night, official said.

Agitated over the incident, hundreds of locals squatted on the Hajipur-Sonepur railway line and blocked the road traffic for about five hours.

New Delhi-Darbhanga Sampark Kranti Express had to be controlled at the railway station here for about an hour, railway sources said.

"The Nitish Kumar government has failed to check lawlessness and crime in the state. It has no right to continue in office," Lalu said and asked the district authorities to apprehend the culprits at the earliest.
