CHENNAI: Education in India was becoming a big business and being politicised, which is very dangerous, NRI businessman Lord Swraj Paul said on Thursday.

"Education is becoming business... it's also being politicised. Both are dangerous. Children deserve better. They do not deserve this at a young age," he told reporters during a press conference to announce the opening of the Caparo Manufacturing Facilities, an industrial complex promoted by his son Angad Paul, at Sriperumbudur near here.

Lord Swraj Paul also said that education and healthcare were the two major areas that needed huge investments, which in turn would yield greater returns. "No other investments can have as a good a return as healthcare and education," he said.

He also said India was changing a lot. "Let us make it better. It is a country we can all be proud of," he said.

He also commended the Tamil Nadu government for their efforts in ensuring that the facility was established. "The Chief Minister, his colleagues and the civil servants have been 'marvellous' and encouraging", he added.
