Here is an opportunity where a miniscule one minute video recording on your mobile or your digicam can actually earn you an opportunity to work with the likes of Anurag Kashyap, Onir, Hansal Mehta, Pawan Kaul, Ramu Ramanathan and Nishikant Kamat.
This opportunity to rub shoulders with the critically acclaimed Bollywood biggies is the incentive for the winner of a one-minute film festival recently announced by a portal. The portal, passionforcinema. com, also has Sudhir Mishra and Santosh Sivan on its members’ list other than the names mentioned above.
“The main purpose of the festival is to connect with budding film-makers, ask them to pick up a camera and tell a story. The main criteria to judge a film would be the subject and its final impact on the audience,” says film director Anurag Kashyap.
The festival also makes an attempt to ensure maximum reach among the film enthusiasts, simply because you can shoot your one-minute film on almost anything, right from a cell phone to a digital camera.
“Film-making is an expensive art form. But if films are shot on digital cameras and edited on laptops, it would prove to be quite inexpensive. And if they win, it would give them further confidence to take their talent forward,” adds Anurag.
For those who feel one minute is too short a time, director Onir would beg to differ. “What we would be looking at is one’s thoughts and innovativeness in the film making process. Emphasis will be more on concepts and ideas. It’s for everybody who is passionate about films and love the art of film making,” he says.
The festival will be held from December 1 to December 5, 2007 and aims to give a platform to those who find it difficult to find a break in film-making.
“It’s a great opportunity for someone who hails from an alternative background. Not everyone out here gets a chance like this on a platter — it’s a must-have for those few who are desperate for an opportunity,” ends Onir.
