NEW DELHI: Don't believe if someone tells you that Santa Claus is just a myth and doesn't exist in reality! Santa exists and you can meet him in person, of course after making your pockets slightly lighter.

In fact, Santa may really come to your town, to invite you all to his homeland in sometime. The Finnish tourist board has devised a special travel package-Finnish winters for Indians. And none other than Santa Claus is their 'brand ambassador.'

Finland is the official abode of the chubby old man from North Pole who distributes gifts to old and young alike, as per a myth. Every year nearly six lakh letters addressed to Santa Claus are received by the Santa Claus main post office in Lapland, the northernmost county of Finland. Interestingly, the number of letters received is more than three times the Scandinavian population.

It is this popularity of Santa Claus, which the Finnish tourism board hopes to cash on, by positioning its promotion strategy of Finnish winters around Santa. Santa with his elves and reindeer is the central figure in winters. Tourists can actually meet him in his home grotto at Santa Park, situated on the Arctic Circle close to Rovaniemi.

The board has entered in a pact with Raj Travel World, which offers two travel packages between December and March each year.

They target high net worth individuals who prefer short vacations due to work pressures. Sven Hansen, the regional manager of the Finnish tourist board, said: "Indians visiting Finland has been on the rise in the recent years and time has come to cash in on the opportunity."

Indians can visit Finland, meet Santa and his reindeer and take home Santa souvenirs. They can enjoy cross-country skiing across pure white snow fields; ride on tourist ice breakers; join in snowmobile and husky safaris and enjoy a host of Finnish delicacies,” Hansen said.
