70 persons killed in Rajasthan Mishap

JAIPUR: At least 70 people were killed when a truck-trailor plunged into a gorge at Punjabi Mode near Daisuri-Ki-Nal in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan on Friday evening.

DIG Udaipur Rajeev Dasot, who was on way to the accident site, confirmed that 70 people had died while rescue operation was in full swing. The accident occurred when the driver of the truck-trailor lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a turn at Punjabi Mode near Daisuri-ki-Nal.

The pilgrims were going to Ramdevra temple, revered by both Hindus and Muslims, in Jaisalmer district when the mishap took place at around 8 pm on a road full of sharp bends.

So far, 70 bodies have been pulled out of the gorge but their identification is yet to be made, he added.

Local authorities pressed into service cranes and searchlights to retrieve the bodies and rescue the injured, the SP said adding medical teams are attending to the wounded.

Bodies of some of the victims of the accident were dismembered and only limbs were recovered from the 20-feet gorge, the SP said.

Due to this, identification of these bodies was absolutely difficult, he added.
