Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Friday called upon young graduate scientists to show courage of conviction in charting out new paths.

"Nuclear renaissance is taking place the world over and your skills, knowledge and creativity should be at a high premium," he said, addressing the 50th batch of young scientists at the graduation day function of BARC, Trombay.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the world today has growing regard for the skills and the intellect of the Indians.

"We see so many global research organisations coming to India to use the talent of our young minds. When the world is willing to invest in India, in our future, we must also learn to invest in the world, and benefit from this two-way flow of ideas, of goods and services, of people and possibilities", stated Singh.

Singh said it was because of the collective efforts of the nuclear scientists that India is ranked among the top few countries to have mastered the entire nuclear fuel cycle.

Expressing concern at the declining enrolment in basic sciences in colleges and universities, Singh said the government wanted to "encourage reverse brain drain so that Indians worldwide return home and contribute to our development."

Earlier, Singh gave away awards to toppers of the 50th batch and the overall toppers of the one year orientation course for engineers, graduates, and scientists from the first batch in 1957 till the 45th batch. Among those who received the awards included Atomic Energy Commission chairman, Dr Anil Kakodkar, V C Sahni, director, Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology, R B Grover, director Strategic Programme and Physicist G Rajashekharan from the first batch of 1957.
