Lure of lavish lifestyle drove three youths to kidnap a rich friend and later, murder him to evade arrest.

Police have managed to nab all three accused -- Sujit Nayyar (27), Ayush Bhatt (18) and Hitesh Ambavat (19). Nayyer hailed from Malwani, while Bhatt and Ambavat were residents of Kandivali and Malad respectively. Nayyar  worked in a BPO, Bhatt a Class XII pass-out and Ambavat a first year student.

The trio had met on Orkut. They soon befriended Adnan, who was from a wealthy family, on the same website. The four met for the first time at a pool parlour in Inorbit Mall, Malad, nearly six months ago.

They soon became close friends, and Adnan doubted nothing when the three asked him to spend a night with them on Saturday. "The three hankered for expensive lifestyle. So, they decided to kidnap Adnan, who came from a rich family," said Kiran Sonone, SI of Oshiwara police station.

"After Adnan's kidnapping, we recorded statements of his friends and family members, but none could say anything about his whereabouts.

We then managed to identify three persons whom Adnan had met in pool parlour. We kept a close vigil on them. They too went missing the day Adnan was kidnapped. When Bhatt and Ambavat returned to their homes we nabbed them," said DCP (Zone IX) VK Choube.

Police interrogated Bhatt and Ambavat, and through them traced Nayyar, the mastermind. "We made Bhatt and Ambavat call Nayyar, and also chat on the Internet. Soon, he too was arrested,” said Choube. Strangulation marks were found on Adnan's body.

Sonone said, "The three had invited Adnan to spend the night with them. The victim drove to Malad to pick up his friends, and together they spent the night somewhere in the suburbs.

On Sunday morning, they made a call to Adnan's parents, demanding a ransom of Rs 2 crore. But on seeing Adnan's photo on TV, they panicked and decided to kill Adnan." They killed Adnan around 10.30 pm on Sunday and abandoned his body near Sanpada.
