NEW DELHI: Railway Minister Lalu Prasad has warned that the media hype over India's Test series win over England may lead to overconfidence in the team and the performance may go down.

"In ko ziyada mat sarahiyae nahi toh phir harne langen ge (Don't hype India's victory too much, otherwise they will again start losing)," Lalu said.

Although Lalu did not say it in as many words, he was perhaps annoyed with India's performance at the World Cup in March when the team crashed out in the first round. The defeat led to a nationwide uproar, with fans staging protests at several places.

"They must by very jubilant this time, but they should not forget that it is their duty to win matches for the country," Lalu said.

India defeated England 1-0 to win the three-Test series - the first in 21 years - and the newly instituted Pataudi Trophy.

Asked if he had congratulated India captain Rahul Dravid and his team, Lalu avoided a straight answer.

He also declined to comment when specifically asked about Dravid's controversial decision of not enforcing the follow-on in the third Test in London.

Explaining his decision to not enforce the follow-on, Dravid had said that he decided to bat a second time as his bowlers were tired and needed rest.

India had made 664 and declared their second innings at 180 for six while England scored 345 in the first innings at Brit Kennington Oval.

India had won the second Test at Nottingham to take a 1-0 lead after the first match at Lord's, London, had ended in a draw.

It was the third time ever that India had won a series on English soil. The first series win had come in 1971. In 1986, India won the series 2-0.
