Mother administers poison to daughter

JAMSHEDPUR: A mentally deranged woman poisoned her only daughter to death in Swarnarekha colony here on Thursday.

The mother, Birmuni, had brought her ten-year-old daughter, Putul, home after informing school hostel authorities that she wanted to perform a puja with her daughter on Tuesday last.

Instead of performing the puja, Birmuni offered her daughter a slice of bread laced with pesticide, the police said.

Putul died within an hour after eating the bread, the police said.

After committing the crime, Birmuni left the body in the house and went to her relatives place to inform them about Putul's dead, the police said.

The relatives informed the matter to the police, who rushed to the spot and found the body.

Police recovered the poison and wrapper of the bread from the spot. The mother was also arrested.

Birmuni, a class IV employee in Swarnarekha multi-purpose project, had joined the project after the death of her husband few years ago.

He told police that she started behaving abnormally ever since her son died about five years ago.
