Manmohan Singh is 'doctor' once again

JAMMU: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrives in Jammu on Sunday to receive an honorary doctorate of letters (D. Litt) from Jammu University, the latest in the many academic honours conferred on him in his long public career.
 
Jammu and Kashmir Governor and university chancellor S.K. Sinha will confer the doctorate degree on Manmohan Singh - the first from an Indian university after he became prime minister in May 2004.
 
Manmohan Singh has been the recipient of honorary doctorates from numerous universities both in India and abroad.
 
This long list includes honorary degrees of D. Litt from Panjab University, Guru Nanak University, Delhi University, Sri Venkateshwara University, Panjabi University, University of Mysore, Osmania University and Italy's University of Bologna.
 
He has received other honorary degrees - a Doctor of Laws from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada; and a Doctor of Social Sciences from the University of Roorkee among others.
 
Manmohan Singh's alma mater Cambridge University conferred an honorary doctorate on him in October 2006, nearly 50 years after he earned his first class honours degree in economics from there.
 
Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who is chancellor of the varsity, bestowed the honorary doctor of law degree on Singh at a special congregation.
 
A year earlier in July 2005, Oxford University Vice-Chancellor Lord Patten of Barnes conferred on him an honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law.
