Burns work files in front of mayor’s office as a mark of protest

The Thane unit of Shiv Sena, that is ruling the municipal corporation for the last 14 years, faced an embarrassment on Friday, when one of the party leaders and former corporator, Madan Kadam, gave vent to his anger in ‘Sena style’ in front of the Mayor’s office. Kadam is currently the Sampark Pramukh of the party for Satara.

Agitated over the non-cooperation of the TMC officials in completing pending works in Ram Nagar, where his wife Neeta Kadam is the sitting corporator of ward no. 78, Kadam had gone to meet the TMC officials. Despite his repeated efforts, he could not meet any of the officers and even the Mayor. He lost his cool and burnt all the work files, he was carrying, in front of Mayor Smita Indulkar’s cabin.

Neeta Kadam had put up a file to construct nullah wall in Ram Nagar that was collapsed during heavy rains a fortnight back. She had also demanded the construction of a public toilet in the area. But the TMC authorities did not start the work on a priority basis.

The news of the incident spread like a wildfire and soon hundreds of party workers gathered on the spot. Shiv Sena group leader Sanjay More also arrived along with some TMC officials. When contacted More said, “Kadam might have lost temper as the work in Ram Nagar could not be done in time. It was not a preplanned act. His problem could be solved with discussions”.

However, More added that TMC officials too have some restrictions and have to abide by the procedures to undertake any work. This causes some delay, which should not be considered as the inefficiency of the officials, he said.

Mayor Smita Indulkar said, “I visited the site after the wall collapsed and had instructed the ward officer concerned to get it repaired immediately. If the officer has not complied with the orders, proper inquiry would be conducted into the matter”.
