The third merit list declared by city colleges on Friday evening failed to bring any respite for thousands of students who had scores below 85 per cent.

The science stream saw a miniscule drop compared to commerce and arts. Most of the well known colleges are expecting seats in the science stream to be filled up in the next few days.

“Very few science seats are left. I do not think we will be taking out a fourth list for science. Although there will be considerable relief for arts and commerce, as there are still lots of seats to be filled up. Students who had applied for commerce and arts can expect a fourth list,” said Dr Kirti Narain, principal of Jai Hind College.

Podar College has only 35 seats left to be filled up for commerce. “The third merit list cut-offs came down only by two marks. We might not come out with a fourth merit list,” said Dr Sita Ramanan, the college’s principal.

This year many students who had scored between 80 and 85 per cent, and were seeking admission to the science stream, will be left in the lurch as most seats will be filled up by the third merit list. However, commerce and arts students can breathe a sigh of relief with cut-offs dropping by as much as five to six per cent.

“Commerce and arts will still have some seats left. We have almost a three per cent drop in this merit list compared to the earlier one,” said Dr Kiran Mangaokar, principal of Mithibai College.
