A 22-year-old woman, who claimed that she was gangraped by her paramour and two others at her Goregaon residence, retracted from her charges on Friday.

Swapnali Shiropath told the police that she had been victim of domestic violence. Shiropath admitted that she had been in a relationship with 24-year-old Ramesingh alias Ramu Chauhan for the last four years.

“Chauhan had promised to marry her and even conducted an informal religious rite with her before the two left their respective residences at Khar on June 25 and began residing in a Goregaon tenement on rental,” a police officer said.

Shiropath on Thursday claimed that Chauhan and two other persons repeatedly raped her in the Goregaon residence after they forced her to drink some intoxicating juice.

A case of rape was registered and transferred to the Goregaon police station for investigations as the alleged crime occurred there. Chauhan was arrested on Thursday night and produced before the metropolitan on Friday morning.

However, Shiropath has now changed her testimony and told police officers that she had been living with Chauhan at the Goregaon residence.

Shiropath, however, told the police that after a few days, Chauhan started torturing and assaulting her. Suspecting that Chauhan was now keen to end their relationship, Shiropath returned to her Nirmal Nagar residence on July 3, claiming that she had been raped by Chauhan and two others.
