MUMBAI: The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) on Friday said there were no abnormalities in the number of cases of monsoon related diseases and only three cases of suspected leptospirosis and dengue had been recorded in the city so far.

The civic body's health authorities said they had recorded three cases of suspected leptospirosis in the city so far, of which one patient is admitted in a municipal hospital and the two are admitted in private health institutions.

"The number of persons affected by any disease is not soc large as to merit it being termed as an outbreak and the number of patients being admitted with monsoon related ailments is nothing out of the ordinary," a senior MCGM health official said.

Authorities said they had recorded 144 cases of fever, 84 cases of gastroenteritis and 24 cases of malaria in the city so far.

They also denied that the number of gastroenteritis cases in the city was due to contamination of water that is being supplied by the civic body.
