INDORE: A city court on Thursday dismissed a petition against Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and Hollywood star Richard Gere over kissing during an AIDS awareness programme, saying the act was not "vulgar".

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sarla Wakalwar said the act does not fit into the category of vulgarity as the actress had not protested the move by the Hollywood star at the function in Delhi, a few months ago.

The plea was filed by an advocate, Inderjeet Singh Bhatia, under various sections of the IPC and CrPC alleging the onstage act of the popular stars promoted vulgarity in the society.

Bhatia had also made the NGO which had hosted the programme, a private news channel and author Taslima Nasreen as respondents in the case, but the court rejected the complaint against them on the ground of insufficient evidence.
