Jayalalitha donates Re 27 lakh for building temple

CHENNAI: AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday donated Rs 27 lakh to the 'Bharatamuni Foundation for Asian Culture' for building a temple for 'Bharatamuni', the founder of  Bharatanatyam.
 
Jayalalithaa handed over the cheque to Bharatanatyam exponent and founder of the Foundation Padma Subramaniam, as per the promise she had made when she was the Chief Minister during 2001-06 for building the temple.

When Jayalalithaa inaugurated the diamond jubilee celebration of Nirutodya, run by Subramaniam on June 28, 2003, the danseuse had requested to help to build the temple.

Jayalalithaa had readily agreed and promised to allot land on behalf of the Government and accordingly allotted five acres of land on Mahapalipuram Road on East Coast.

As a personal contribution, Jayalalithaa on Wednesday donated the amount, a party release here said. After receiving the amount, Subramaniam profusely thanked the AIADMK leader, the release  added.
