They held a businessman for Rs1.5 crore ransom

NEW DELHI: In a shocking tale of kidnap for ransom, the Delhi Police have arrested three call-centre employees on charges of kidnapping their first cousin and demanding a ransom of Rs. 1.5 crore from the family members.

Police said the 32-year-old Gujarat businessman, Rajbhai Himmatram Malvi was called to Delhi on the pretext of a huge business deal to Dubai but was kidnapped and taken to a house in Gurgaon, about 20 kilometers from Delhi. Officials said Malvi’s company manufactures gold jewellery making instruments in Ahmedabad.

Senior officials said that one of the three kidnappers was Malvi’s first cousin but the two brothers did not share very cordial relations for a long time and the kidnapping was carried out to teach Malvi and his family members a lesson.

“He was contacted in Ahmedabad through phone and was given air tickets to come to talk about business prospects in Dubai. The businessman took the bait and came to Delhi. He was soon taken to a house where he was bound with iron chains,” said Muktesh Chander, additional commissioner (Crime Branch).

The officer added that the family members were called to Delhi with the amount. “The kidnappers were using Malvi’s phone, so we managed to trace the calls and finally found him in a house in Gurgaon,” said Chander.

He added the other police units were also on the lookout for Malvi in Noida, Meerut, Ghaziabad and other areas of NCR because the location of the phone was changing.
