CHENNAI: In a curious development, AIADMK supremo and one of the key leader of the newly-formed United National Progressive Allaiance (UNPA) J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday cancelled her visit to National Capital.

Jayalalithaa and other leaders of the UNPA constituents were scheduled to meet President A P J Abdul Kalam on Tuesday to request him to stand for the presidential poll for a second term, as per the decision taken at the UNPA's meeting held here on June 18.

Official sources said five air tickets have been blocked for Jayalalithaa, her personal aide Sasikala, servant girl, Personal Security Officer and Personal Assistant to her in the Indian flight scheduled to leave here for Delhi at 1010 hrs.

Since Jayalalithaa was under 'Z' category, tight security arrangements were made around the airport from early this morning.

Howver, security measures were withdrawn around 0900 hrs after a message received from the security control room that Jayalalithaa had cancelled her visit to Delhi, the sources added.

Jayalithaa and others had planned to return from the Capital tonight by Jet Airways flight leaving New Delhi at 1900 hrs, the sources said.

When a UNI reporter contacted the AIADMK headquarters and asked the reason for the cancellation of  Jayalaithaa's trip to Delhi, they pleaded ignorance.
